Union Tank Car wants to renegotiate the company’s work force requirement.
When the railcar company first opened shop in June 2006, it expected to hire a work force of 850 within its first two years. That work force estimate was used to calculate economic incentives the company received on the state and local levels, and, in the case of noncompliance, incentives that would need to be paid back. Two years later, the plant employs approximately 600 people. In order to avoid possible penalties, Union Tank is looking to amend its original cooperative endeavor agreement.
The Alexandria City Council introduced a copy of that proposed amendment during its regular council meeting yesterday. The council’s Legal Committee will discuss the agreement at their next meeting.
