As New Orleans continues to grapple with violent crime, a new program aims to allow people to swap their guns for musical instruments and access to mental health and other services.

The goal of the Horns for Guns program is to give youth an alternative to life on the streets, by equipping them with instruments, cameras or other tools that allow them to express themselves creatively. There’s another piece, too, which includes providing counseling for those in need.

The so-called gun buyback is set to take place September 6th, with police saying they’ll accept guns with no questions asked. However, organizers hope to provide resources through the program for a full year.
