It’s not everyday the Third Circuit Court of Appeals comes to a school near you, for the students of Dry Prong Junior High School and other Grant Parish schools, it was a big treat to have Appellant Judges hold their oral arguments in the auditorium.
The court’s two day visit is a part of their “Ride Circuit” program; where a panel of judges travels to the area where the cases originated. It’s a tradition that dates back to 1995, but this is the first time grant parish has participated
On the panel this year is Judge Chris Roy of Alexandria.
He says an opportunity like this helps students understand that law doesn’t stop at the district court level and what you see on t.v. is not how it all goes down. And, students and teachers say some of life’s best lessons are learned outside of the classroom.
Before the “ride circuit” program began, all court sessions were held in Lake Charles.
