BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - State Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain is issuing a challenge: Eat only food grown in Louisiana for a week.

The call comes for National Farmers Market Week, runs August 3 through 9.

The Agriculture Department says Strain plans to mark the event with morning television show appearances and by stressing the importance of supporting local growers and the industry.

Strain says there are more than 100 farmers’ markets and fruit stands in Louisiana.

A just-released 2007 survey by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention listed Louisiana among the top five states with the highest levels of adult obesity.
