A Leesville legislator says he received assurances from the state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries that hunting deer with dogs will continue in the Kisatchie National Forest.
Rep. James Armes says that’s why he pulled his bill that would have let lawmakers review - and reject - the hunting season dates, bag limits and restrictions set each year. Concerns about the Kisatchie hunting situation prompted the bill, which never came up for a vote in the House before the regular session ended last week.
Armes says he’ll return with the idea during next year’s legislative session if the department and the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission don’t continue to allow hunting with dogs at Kisatchie.
