BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Southern University at Baton Rouge has joined the ranks of other state colleges increasing tuition by 5 percent this fall.

The university’s board of supervisors approved the increase Friday.

In June, the Legislature approved tuition increases for public colleges of up to 5 percent each of the next four years.

Southern in Baton Rouge charges $3,666 a year in tuition and fees. A 5 percent increase would jump the cost to $3,850 this fall.

In four years, Southern’s tuition could be over $4,400 if increases are approved each year.
