A federal judge is scheduled to meet Wednesday with lawyers on both sides of a money laundering case against a Louisiana lawmaker.

U.S. District Judge Carl Barbier set a status conference to discuss scheduling issues in the case against state Senator Derrick Shepherd and the woman he is accused of helping launder money to conceal her illegal operation of an insurance business.

In court last week, Barbier said he was disturbed by Shepherd’s recent arrest on charges he assaulted his girlfriend.

A magistrate has ordered Shepherd to be confined at home while he awaits an October trial date in the federal case.
