PINEVILLE, La. – More than 120 Louisiana National Guard Soldiers will bid farewell to family and friends at a deployment ceremony on Sunday, Oct. 5, at the Municipal Auditorium, 705 Elvis Presley Ave., in Shreveport, La., at 10 a.m.
The 39th Military Police Company of the 773rd Military Police Battalion will leave for Fort Dix, N.J., immediately following the ceremony to begin two months of training before their final departure to Baghdad, Iraq.
The 39th MPs come from all over the state, many of which volunteered for the mission. Capt. Calvin Foremen of Baton Rouge, La., will command the MPs during the year-long deployment, as they train, mentor and coach the Iraqi Police Force.
Currently, the 2228th Military Police Company out of Pineville, La., also under the 773rd, is serving in Iraq training Iraqi Police. They are scheduled to return from their year-long deployment in March 2009.
