The Winnfield Civil Service Board recessed tonight without deciding if former city policeman, Scott Nugent should be re-hired.
The six member board said it wanted more time to look at the evidence. In January, Nugent hit a suspect nine times with a taser, and that man, Barron Scooter Pikes, died later of cardiac arrest. The coroner’s report listed Pikes’ death as a homicide. At first, Nugent was put on paid suspension, then the city council voted to fire him. Regardless of what the civil service board decides, Nugent could still face criminal charges for Pikes’ death.
The board will reconvene August 18th.

It is absolutely appalling that they would even entertain the thought of re-hiring Mr. Nugent. He gives fine law officers of the world a bad name. Tasering a “handcuffed” NINE?! times… come on now Scott. The words “defies logic” ring loud and clear here.
