A Rapides Parish Sheriffs Department corrections officer has been arrested for taking money from a prisoner.
Deputies arrested 26 year old Darrell Turner of Alexandria and charged him with malfeasance in office and theft.
The incident happened Monday morning while a prisoner was being booked into the Rapides parish jail. The prisoner had over 800 dollars in cash in his possession. When he was preparing to bond out, jail records showed only 300 dollars. After an investigation, officers found that Turner, who was a booking officer, allegedly took the money.
Turner was arrested and fired from the sheriff’s office. He had been employed with R.P.S.O. for just under a year.
