September 16, 2008-Alexandria, LA- Today, the Central Louisiana Red Cross continues to meet emergency needs for families and individuals through Red Cross shelters and by sending Disaster Action Teams to homes to survey damage and disaster assistance caseworkers to report.
All Red Cross volunteer case managers and damage assessment volunteers are in the area making home visits. Anyone who has been displaced by the storms- Louisianan and Texas alike, or has major structural damage to a primary residence and has critical emergency needs should call the American Red Cross at 800-259-2777 or 318-442-6621 to request a visit by a Red Cross Disaster Action Team member. Please be sure to provide you name, pre-disaster address, current location, and phone number.
To date, the Central Louisiana Red Cross has served over 364,000 meals and snacks through shelters, respite centers, and neighborhood feedings and provided over 34,000 shelter overnight shelter stays.
As we continue disaster relief efforts, these numbers steadily rise daily. The National Red Cross expects the expenses of Hurricane Gustav alone to be $30-$70 million, with Ike being significantly more.
The Red Cross needs your help! Please give to the Disaster Relief Fund which enables the Red Cross to provide food and the means to transport it from place to place, shelter and the supply needed to accommodate residents, and financial assistance as necessary.
Make a donation to the Disaster Relief Fund, call 318-442-6621/1800-RED-CROSS or visit http://www.cenlaredcross.org or http://www.redcross.org.
