Public Takes Advantage of Free Small Business Classes

Dale Williams has a goal of starting his own property management business where he buys a house and after remodeling it, sells it for a profit.

Williams said, “I work for UTLX where I build trains but my passion is to build homes to resell them to do property management anything that has to do with property.”

Despite the gloomy national economy Williams sees that the time is right for his startup in Alexandria. 

“I want to go into remodel resell, right now there’s a lot of good homes to be purchased due to the market.  I want to purchase these homes and provide people with low to moderate income with housing.”

To help get his business up and running Williams is attending a finance class put on by the Louisiana Small Business Development Center in Alexandria.  Francis Methvin is a business consultant who teaches the free class.

Methvin said, “We assist people who want to start a small business or want to expand or having financial problems.  We just try to boost our economy and create jobs.

Methvin said her monthly workshop on business finances usually has 10 to 20 people

“We do this workshop once a month and I usually have 10 to 20 people it’s very encouraging for people who are looking for small business as an alternative.”

Williams says he’s learned some important steps to starting his business.

“How to be better prepared to prepare a business plan to be able to put on paper my vision to be able to go toward the lenders.  To ask for the money to go in and do these projects.”
