Penny Acres subdivision in Alexandria is still under five feet of water in places - and it’s anyone’s guess when some of those folks will be able to get back into their homes.  News Channel 5’s Joel Massey shows us what they’re up against.

Like other parts of Alexandria the torrential rain from hurricane Gustav flooded penny acres, but days later the neighborhood remains underwater.  Latonya Chapman is at the end of her rope.  She has three kids, a flooded house and car, forcing her to catch rides to work.

Chapman is staying with her mom Catherine who offered comfort for another penny acres resident.

Lloyd Trahan has gone to great lengths to keep the water out.  He’s built a levee around his home and installed pumps to fight the flood.

Trahan says the neighborhood flooded this high in 1982 that’s why he built his system in 84.  Many residents are waiting for the water to go down to see what’s become of their homes.

Trahan said that he’s tried to get others in the neighborhood to build levees around their houses as well.
