Mark your calendars. On October 17, Rapides Regional Medical Center employees will “Paint the Town Pink” – and they’re asking you to do the same.

According to the American Cancer Society’s most recent numbers, approximately 40,460 women and 450 men will die of breast cancer this year, but by making pink their wardrobe color of choice on Oct. 17, participants can also celebrate the fact that when caught early, the 5-year survival rate for breast cancer is 98 percent. In 1982, the survival rate was 74 percent.

The community can also take part in a special Breast Cancer Awareness Month event with Central Louisiana Arts & Healthcare, at the Coughlin-Saunders Performing Arts Center on Sunday, Oct. 26.

The 3 p.m. event includes an encore performance of “The Way Home” and a “Paint Pink” art exhibit. For ticket information call 769-7602 or visit http://www.artsandhealthcare.org.
