Louisiana State Police Investigators are at the scene in Simmesport of an overnight shooting by a Simmesport Police officer of a suspect trying to break into a local business. According to the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office, the call came at 3:00 AM this morning for deputies to assist Simmesport PD at a Burglary in Progess at Rogers Wrecker Service located on Hwy. 1 in Simmesport. The 22-year-old suspect was shot by the Simmesport officer while attempting to apprehend him. Sheriff’s investigators are on the scene and have turned the investigation over to the Louisiana State Police/Bureau of Investigation/ Detective Section. LSP tells News Channel 5 the suspect suffered non-life threatening injuries. Also, the name of the officer has yet to be released.
