NATCHITOCHES, La. (AP) - John Hundley threw for two touchdowns,
including 17-yard TD pass to Gordon Freeman late in the fourth
quarter, and ran for another score to lead Northwestern State to a
31-19 win Sunday over Grambling State.
Northwestern State (2-1) was leading 17-13 when Hundley
connected on the touchdown to Freeman with three minutes left in
the game.
Grambling State (1-2) answered with 1-yard TD run by quarterback
J.P. Tillman with 2:33 remaining to cut the lead to 24-19 after a
missed two-point conversion. Tillman, who also threw for a
touchdown, finished with 169 yards passing.
Northwestern State put the game out of reach on William
Griffin’s 14-yard touchdown run with 26 seconds left in a game
originally scheduled for Saturday. Officials moved kickoff back to
Sunday due to Hurricane Ike.
Hundley was 11-for-20 passing for 157 yards. He threw a 31-yard
TD pass for the game’s opening score and had a 9-yard touchdown run
in the second quarter.
