SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - A huge warehouse and office building that used to belong to a General Motors supplier is the newest hurricane
shelter in Shreveport.

Officials unveiled it Tuesday, and say the state will begin converting it next week.

There’s 80,000 square feet of warehouse space, and 20,000 square feet of office and classroom space.

Sandy Davis of the Caddo office of Homeland Security and
Emergency Preparedness says it will be used for people who don’t
have their own transportation, and will replace the shelter at the
old Outlet Mall on Greenwood Road.

Instead of housing evacuees, the mall will house workers and
volunteers.
