Authorities have arrested an alternative school principal in Iberia Parish on drug and counterfeit money charges.

Iberia Parish Sheriff’s deputies say 38-year-old Darius Sias was booked shortly after midnight Wednesday.

Sergeant Wendell Raborn, a sheriff’s office spokesman, says investigators recovered marijuana, cocaine and more than $300 in counterfeit money at a home in New Iberia.

School officials say Sias has been the principal of Lee Street Alternative School for about three years and has been with the school system for 14 years.

Sias has been placed on administrative leave pending resolution of the charges.
