Some very important developments at the Alexandria Zoo were announced at a recent press conference. The City of Alexandria presented Lee Ann Whitt as the new Executive Director, making her the only female director in the state.
Another topic was the long-awaited plans for ground renovations. Expansions will be made for a South American Exhibit, a new playground area, and Entertainment Plaza; an estimate of over $2 million in costs. Mayor Roy is pleased to have this happen for the Zoo, and comments on making a memorial for the late Director, Les Whitt.
Lee Ann Whitt also says that she recognizes the visions that her husband Les Whitt had for the zoo, along with her own ideas. The public can expect to see new features by the summer of 2010. Newschannel 5 Sherman Desselle reports in video.
