When the kids got out of school at st. francis cabrini school back in May - they really didn’t know if they’d have a school to go back to today. There were rumors flying around that the school was going to close. Well today - the school is not only open and bustling - it’s time for a birthday party.
It’s a big day at st. francis cabrini school where it’s the first day for their students and principal joseph weeder-holt--not to mention the celebration of 60 years in the making… The principal says with the help of experienced faculty and parents, everything went off without a hitch. He is moving into the role of principal, but is no stranger to St. Francis--he served as Assistant Principal last year, and as a teacher 18 years prior.
While Cabrini School celebrated 60 years of service to the community, they can give themselves a pat on the back for another reason as well. Six current teachers are alumni, and 3rd grade teacher Diance Carlino has been there for 30 years. She’s called St. Francis Cabrini School “home” since 1959 and says
evreyone is a close knit family.
The school hopes to convey that as they commemorate 60 years of many that have come and gone at the school. They are gearing up for alumni events for later in the year. School events begin for the 2008-2009 school year with the annual ‘Cajun Fest’ happening Sept. 20 in the activity building.
