Concordia Parish Sheriff's Office:
The Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested two Monterey men Thursday (8-14-08) in connection with two separate arson cases in the Monterey area of the parish.
Jared C. Mount, 20, 107 Dr. Gibson Road, was charged with aggravated arson, flight from an officer, no driver’s license, no turn signal and no seat belt. The suspect reportedly fled from lead investigator David Hedrick as he attempted to place Mount under arrest.
Mount is charged with setting the fire that destroyed a Dr. Gibson Road mobile home of a neighbor, Mary Jane Finley, in August 2007, on the same night that he allegedly took part in vandalizing fire stations in the Monterey area, along with vandalizing mailboxes and roadside boxes that contain wiring and other equipment used to establish basic communications for fire department officials, police and emergency medical services.
The damage at the fire stations was said to have been so extensive that it prohibited fire trucks from responding to the mobile home fire at 129 Dr. Gibson Road.
He was arrested on a charge of aggravated criminal damage to property for the vandalism soon after that incident. Meanwhile, the Sheriff’s Office has continued to investigate the mobile home arson.
“Just because an arrest was not made for the arson right away, that does not mean that the case was closed,” remarked Sheriff Randy Maxwell. “Hedrick and others have continued to work on this case ever since that night.”
Maxwell highly commended Hedrick for his work on the case, along with Lt. Greg Jackson, Sgt. Chris Groh, Capt. Eddie Poole and Deputy Billy Joe Ratcliff.
Mount has not been to trial as yet on the year-old aggravated criminal damage to property charge for the vandalism. He is also awaiting trial on assorted charges of possession of marijuana, resisting an officer and other traffic violations.
Christopher T. Cross, 23, 7715 Hwy. 129, was charged Thursday with aggravated arson for the August 2006 fire that destroyed the Highway 565 mobile home of Randy Butts in Monterey. A truck parked in the yard was also destroyed in the fire.
Cross is currently incarcerated at River Correctional Facility in Ferriday on forgery and methamphetamine possession convictions.
