One of three people arrested for the
killing of two international LSU graduate students has been
released from jail.
Casey Gathers’ release was granted Monday. By law, prosecutors
have 120 days either to formally charge someone or let them be
released from jail. Gather’s defense attorney filed a motion to
that effect and District Judge Chip Moore granted the request and
ordered his release.
Michael Lewis, who was arrested along with Gathers and Devin
Parker, also qualifies for release because he has not yet been
charged. He remains in jail.
Gathers’ release comes just days after Parker was indicted on
two counts of second-degree murder in the deaths of Chandrasekhar
Reddy Komma, a biology student from Kurnool, India, and Kiran Kumar
Allam, a chemistry student from Hyderabad, India. The men were
killed December 13 at Allam’s apartment near the LSU campus.
Both men were shot in the head and one was bound.
