Alexandria police arrested a man accused of abducting a woman from a nursing home in West Virginia.

Police say a man accused of abducting a woman from a nursing home in West Virginia was arrested in Alexandria.

Sixty-four year-old David Mathews and 67 year-old Nancy Seals were found outside Red River Bank a week after she went missing from Valley Haven Geriatric Center in West Virginia.  Both are patients at the nursing home and the woman is unable to take care of herself.

Mathews is charged with abuse or neglect of an incapacitated or elderly person because he allegedly took her without her medication or personal items.  Apparently Mathews used the phone at the bank to call his sister in West Virginia and she called the Sheriff there.  Then the Brooke County Sheriffs called Alexandria Police.  Seals was suffering from dehydration and heat exposure but is recovering at Huey P. Long Hospital.  Mathews had apparently befriended Seals and obtained power of attorney before she moved into the nursing home.  The West Virginia Sheriffs office says Seals brother became suspicious when he found that checks had been written from his sisters account.  Mathews is awaiting extradition at the Rapides Parish Jail.
