Deputies in Avoyelles Parish are investigating two separate incidents of mailbox bombings. The first bombing took place on Tuesday morning at a home on La 452 found his mailbox destroyed laying in a ditch. Investigators believe the mailbox was destroyed by a homemade bomb.
Then about 11:15 pm the Sheriffs Office received calls about explosions in the area of the Old Moncla Highway. After patrolling the area, deputies found a brick mailbox that had been destroyed. So officers secured the area and called in the State Police Explosives Unit and ATF. After ATF agents processed the crime scene, they found that the bomb was a “Sparkler Bomb.”
No one was hurt in either bombing. Now the search is on to find out who is responsible. Anyone with information on the bombings is asked to contact the Avoyelles Parish Sheriffs Department at 318-253-4000.
