BATON ROUGE – For the fourth consecutive year, LSU goes into the college football season having sold more season tickets than the year before as Tiger fans have purchased a school-record 68,650 season tickets.
The 68,650 season tickets that have been purchased for LSU’s eight home football games this year surpassed the previous mark of 68,230 set last season. LSU sold 67,700 season tickets in 2006 and 66,100 season tickets during Les Miles’ first year with the Tigers in 2005.
“Coming off a national championship, demand for season tickets is at an all-time high,” assistant athletic director for ticket operations Brian Broussard. “We’ve sold every season ticket that we can sell.”
Last year, LSU averaged a school-record 92,619 fans for its seven home games, which ranked sixth in the nation. Tiger Stadium’s official capacity is listed as 92,400 making it’s the sixth-largest on-campus venue in college football.
LSU opens its season on Aug. 30 when the Tigers host Appalachian State at 4 p.m. in a nationally televised contest on ESPN.
Other home games for the Tigers in 2008 include: Troy on Sept. 6, North Texas on Sept. 13, Mississippi State on Sept. 27, Georgia on Oct. 25, Alabama on Nov. 8 and Ole Miss on Nov. 22.
