BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - LSU catcher Micah Gibbs has been named
to the 2009 Rawlings NCAA Division I Gold Glove Team.
In conjunction with the American Baseball Coaches Association,
Rawlings annually honors college baseball’s top defensive players.
A sophomore from Pflugerville, Texas, Gibbs was voted to the
Southeastern Conference All-Defensive Team by the league coaches
this season.
The starting catcher in 67 of LSU’s 73 games, Gibbs recorded a
.989 fielding percentage and committed only seven errors. He threw
out 22 runners attempting to steal and was charged with four passed
balls.
At the plate, Gibbs batted .294 with 16 doubles, two triples,
six home runs, 42 RBIs and 58 runs scored.
He helped lead the Tigers to the national championship by
hitting .357 in the College World Series with three RBIs and six
runs scored.
