BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - The Louisiana boy’s basketball
championship tournament, known as the Top 28, is staying put in
Lafayette.
The executive committee of the Louisiana High School Athletic
Association voted on the matter Tuesday, giving the Cajundome the
nod over competing bids from Shreveport and New Orleans.
Officials in New Orleans hoped to host the tournament in the
newly refurbished Lakefront Arena on the campus of the University
of New Orleans.
Also during the meeting, the LHSAA named Keith Alexander as its
new assistant commissioner. Alexander is currently the
superintendent of schools in Hamburg, Ark. He will replace Mac
Chauvin, who will retire in December.
Alexander also is a longtime football referee in the Gulf South
Athletic Conference.
