On Tuesday, November 11, 2008, Louisiana State Police Troop E and Natchitoches Police Department conducted an insurance checkpoint between the hours of 8:00 am to 10:00 am. The checkpoint was conducted on LA Hwy 1 (Business), milepost 324.8, within the city limits of Natchitoches.
During the checkpoint, 13 motorists were cited for insurance violations, three seatbelt citations were issued, and one child restraint citation was issued. Officers also issued 17 non-moving violations. During the checkpoint, 512 vehicles were screened.
This insurance checkpoint was conducted to encourage compliance with the state’s compulsory insurance law. Our goal is to greatly reduce the number of people driving without insurance and to remove uninsured vehicles off the road. State law requires that proof of valid insurance be carried in the vehicle at all times.
Troop E will be conducting numerous checkpoints (i.e. seatbelt checkpoints, insurance checkpoints, and DWI checkpoints) throughout the year. Motorists should expect aggressive enforcement in these areas of interest.
