The Independence Bowl Foundation has filed a lawsuit against its former sponsor, PetroSun, to get back a half-million dollars the city doled out to keep the college football bowl game afloat.

Bowl Chairman Ken Bergeron said Thursday that the teams that played - Alabama and Colorado - would not have been paid without the donation and that could have led to NCAA sanctions against the bowl. Bergeron said PetroSun is in default of its three-year contract. The bowl has not been paid since July 2007. Bergeron estimates it is owed about $800,000.

PetroSun’s head said Wednesday that he planned to wire the money to the foundation in the next week to 10 days.
