Governor Bobby Jindal is in Detroit today hoping to save jobs at Shreveport’s General Motors assembly plant. Jindal and Shreveport officials are meeting with GM North America president Troy Clarke. They plan to offer incentives to bring the plant back to full employment.

GM plans to cut the second shift at its Shreveport plant on September 29th, ending jobs for nearly 800 people.

State incentives could include tax breaks, cash to improve the factory, training help or other options. For example, Jindal says the state could help convert equipment at the plant to make more fuel-efficient vehicles.
