Doug and Lynne Henderson built their dream home in Bellingham, Washington two years ago, but a garbage truck knocked it off its foundation Wednesday morning.
“As I was standing there, I had the garage door open, I saw something explode, which was a carport, and then all of a sudden it was kind of airborne,” he described.
The garbage truck landed in his house.
He was standing just a few feet away when debris went flying.
Luckily, nothing landed on him, but the truck slammed into the house so hard, it knocked the house off its foundation.
The couple retrieved only a few of their belongings before the county condemned the house.
The sanitary service company says the driver was out of the truck talking to a customer at the top of the hill when the truck rolled away.
He gave chase, but couldn’t catch up.
Now the Hendersons’ dream home is gone.
“We loved the house, but it’s just a house, so we’ll rebuild it,” said Henderson.
The sanitary service company says their driver is experienced and their trucks go through regular maintenance, so they won’t know what caused the accident until they get the truck out of the house.
