The Red River Parish sheriff’s office says a 4-year-old was killed after an older child accidentally shot him in the neck. Sheriff Johnny Ray Norman says the incident occurred Tuesday night shortly before 6 p.m. in the Crossroads community north of Coushatta.
Norman says the victim, identified as Ethan Jones, was shot by a relative - a boy about 11 years old. Norman says the older boy had gotten a .308 deer rifle out of a gun cabinet in the home and was playing with it when the weapon discharged. He says the blast hit the neck of the younger child, who was sitting on the floor watching TV.
Norman says the investigation is continuing but they’re tentatively ruling the incident an accidental shooting.
