Former U.S. Sen. John Breaux says if Northrop Grumman wins a $2.5 billion logistics support contract for the Air Force’s KC-10 Extender fleet it could mean up to 300 new jobs for Chennault International Airport.

Breaux, a Northrop Grumman lobbyist, held a meeting Friday with area supporters at Chennault to say that a decision by the Air Force is expected by the end of June. Northrop Grumman is competing with Boeing for the contract. Breaux says he believes Northrop Grumman has the winning edge in the competition and expects the KC-10 CLS maintenance program to be done at Northrop Grumman’s Chennault facilities.

Breaux said it would mean 150 jobs in the $40,000-$50,000 annual pay range.
