The Louisiana Recovery Authority agreed to open the Road Home program to more people who sold their homes at a loss after the program’s 2006 launch.

The homeowner rebuilding or buyout program created after hurricanes Katrina and Rita allowed for grants for those who’d sold homes at a loss before the program began - if there was money left after paying compensation and elevation grants. The money is expected to be available. So, the LRA’s board of directors agreed to that program expansion Tuesday.
The change would extend eligibility to those who didn’t get Road Home aid and sold homes at losses before Aug. 29, 2007. The applicants still must have met prior program deadlines.

State lawmakers and federal officials have to approve the expansion before it could take effect.
