COVINGTON, La. (AP) - A Covington woman has pleaded guilty to embezzling thousands of dollars from Gil Copeland, brother of the late founder of Popeyes chicken, Al Copeland.
Patricia Ford had worked as an assistant and bookkeeper for Gil Copeland. She pleaded guilty in state court this week to theft over $500 and was put on probation for five years.
The 60-year-old Ford has paid Copeland $26,000 and must give him her house and pay him $700 per month for seven years. If she fails to make the payments, she faces 10 years in prison.
As part of her plea, Ford agreed to the allegations in a civil suit asking for at least $607,000.
Ford admitted that she diverted payments from Copeland’s real estate tenants.
