The Federal Emergency Management Agency has extended its deadline for providing temporary housing for evacuees of Hurricane Ike. Gov. Bobby Jindal says FEMA will now provide temporary housing until October 28th.

The state of Louisiana requested an extension so families would have safe and reliable housing if their homes were damaged by the storm. FEMA’s sheltering assistance program are for applicants who have been deemed eligible for housing assistance or who have not yet received a FEMA inspection of their home. FEMA will notify applicants if they are authorized for assistance past the deadline.

Ike’s powerful storm surge inundated coastal communities on September 13th.
