PINEVILLE, La. - Third-ranked Mary Hardin-Baylor scored 21 first quarter points on their way to a 35-10, American Southwest Conference, win over Louisiana College Saturday afternoon.  The Cru churned out 262 rushing yards.  LC’s offense was able to move the ball on the potent Cru defense, racking up 358 yards of offense, but the Wildcats turned the football over three times.  LC returns to action next Saturday, traveling to ETBU for a 1 p.m. contest.

The LC offense came out sluggish as they didn’t get a first down until their fourth drive of the game.  During that time, UMHB scored 14 points on two short drives.  The first UMHB touchdown came after the Cru recorverd an LC quarterback Derek Lewis fumble on a third-and-six play.  The Cru recovered at the LC nine yard line.  UMHB (5-0, 4-0) gained three yards on three consecutive plays, with the third play being a touchdown run by Roger Sanchez.  The Cru’s next score came on their next possession.  Brett Parker returned a John Michiels punt 48 yards to the LC 12-yard line.  Once again, UMHB needed just three plays to punch it in the endzone, as Tommy Vadell powered his way into the endzone on a one yard one.

UMHB pushed the score to 21-0 on their very next possession.  After forcing another punt, UMHB took over on their own 37-yard line.  On the first play of the drive, Cru quarterback Josh Saenz hit Brian Scott for a 63-yard touchdown pass.

After the Cru built the 21-0 lead, LC’s offense came alive, but wasn’t able to overcome the hole that was dug in the first quarter.  The first Wildcat score came on a 33-yard field goal from John Michiels.  The field goal capped a 12-play, 44-yard drive.  LC then blocked a 37-yard field goal attempt by UMHB and Donoval Williams returned it all the way to the Cru 11-yard line.  After a LaMarcus Preston one-yard rush, Lewis, who finished 31-of-46 for 295 yards with one touchdown and one interception, hit Jordan Rideaux for a 10-yard touchdown pass.  Rideaux finished the game with 11 catches for 114 yards.

UMHB did score another touchdown just before halftime when Ervin Johnson hauled in a nine-yard pass from Josh Saenz, making the halftime score 28-10.

The second half was a defensive struggle as both teams’ defenses forced multiple punts from the other team.  UMHB did tack on a final touchdown on the first play of the fourth quarter, when nathan Meyer broke a 60-yard run that found the endzone.  Meyer led the Cru in rushing with 108 yards on nine carries.

Defensively, LC was able to limit a powerfil Cru offense to just 171 yards of offense in the second half.  Wildcat linebacker, David Batson collected 10 tackles and Robert Wilson blocked two UMHB field goal attempts.
