January is a big month for college-bound seniors, as application deadlines are getting closer, but lots of students aren’t ready. That’s according to Glenda Spurgeon - the president of the “Rapides School Counselors Association” who’s all too familiar with this time of the year. She says by now, high school seniors should have already taken college prep courses, and either the ACT or SAT.
Spurgeon says students should have also applied to at least 3 colleges they’re interested in, as well as, scholarships. She says the focus now should be on filing your FAFSA forms for federal scholarships and grants.
The quickest way to do so - log on to http://www.fafsa.ed.gov. The cost is free, and Spurgeon says working students, and parents, need to make sure they file their income taxes early because the information is needed to apply.
But is the application process as simple as logging on to the website? Grab a pen and paper as News Channel 5’s Leigh Culbert gives us the break down in today’s “Assignment Education” (see sidebar links for more information).
