A tour bus crash in northern California on Sunday left at least eight passengers dead and dozens hospitalized.
It happened near the town of Williams, California.
It was a horrific scene from the air as a small army of first-responders descended on the crash site Sunday night.
Throughout the night, rescue teams pulled victims from the mangled bus that witnesses say lost control before flipping and landing in a ditch off the side of the road.
“For whatever reason it drifted off the right shoulder over corrected, came back across the southbound lanes and overturned. the vehicle did roll, several people were ejected,” said Brian Donnelly of the California Highway Patrol.
Several of the injured passengers were rushed to area hospitals by ambulance and medical helicopters.
The bus was on its way to a casino and already, the investigation has turned up signs of trouble.
Logos on the crumpled bus made it appear that it was a Greyhound Bus, but officials said Greyhound sold this vehicle two years ago.
“It is not a Greyhound Bus. We have found out that the numbers on the bus are not valid. The license plate is not valid, the license plate is out of Texas,” said Bob Case of the California Highway Patrol.
The bus driver was among the survivors.
Authorities hope he can answer troubling questions about this rural highway crash that claimed at least eight lives.
