The New Orleans Hornets are one of the teams former LSU forward Brandon Bass is considering in free agency, his agent Tony Dutt said Tuesday. Teams can begin negotiating with free agents at 12:01 Wednesday morning but players cannot sign contracts until July 8. One of the Hornets’ priorities is signing a backup power forward. Bass, a Baton Rouge native, played two seasons with the Hornets before signing a free-agent deal with the Dallas Mavericks in 2007. In two seasons in Dallas, Bass has emerged as an effective rebounder and mid-range scorer. As a backup last season, Bass averaged 8.5 points and 4.5 rebounds. “Just looking at my list, they are obviously on it,’’ Dutt said. “I would hope and think that they would have interest. We are definitely open minded.’’ Bass is expected to draw interest from several teams, including the Dallas Mavericks and New Jersey Nets.
