Boasso denies campaign finance violation

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Former state Senator Walter Boasso says he didn’t violate state campaign finance reporting laws as a Democratic candidate for governor last fall.

The Louisiana Board of Ethics has alleged that Boasso and his campaign may have violated the law because they failed to itemize more than $1 million in expenditures. The payments were made to a
Philadelphia advertising firm. The campaign listed the spending as “media buys.”

Boasso says he was out of the country when the board notified him about the charge, which is based on a complaint filed by Scott Wilfong, a member of the Republican State Central Committee.

Boasso issued a statement in which he said a report was filed in July 2007 listing all expenditures made. In the wake of the complaint, Boasso said his campaign filed an amended report immediately.
