According to his media relations officer, Avoyelles Parish Sheriff Doug Anderson is not available to be interviewed-- as News Channel 5 has received a faxed press release about more arrests inside his department.
These are the latest two suspects, 51 year old Linda Edwards and a Lt. Ronnie Lacombe-- he’s 58 years old. Both are being charged with malfeasance in office and five counts of bringing contraband into a penal institution. Both have a 5 thousand dollar bond. Until last week, both were employed at the Bunkie Detention Center.
In the release News Channel 5 received from the Sheriff’s office-- we found no specifics about what the contraband was. It was only after we called and pushed for details did we learn the two suspects brought inmates clothes and food.
In a related incident, eariler this month, a woman named Tammy Lemoine, formerly an APSO employee, was arrested for bringing a cell phone into the Marksville jail. The Sheriff’s Office says she was actually conspiring to bring drugs into the facility.
Soon after bonding out, Ms. Lemoine wrote a letter to the editor of the Bunkie Record- making accusations about APSO. She says she was arrested at an event where Gov. Jindal was giving a speech-- and Ms. Lemoine says deputies intercepted her before she could bring her concerns about the corruption to the Gov.
Sheriff Anderson responded to News Channel 5 after this story aired. [I have posted my phone interview with the Sheriff, unedited, online].

I agree with Dot, this is ridictulas, these items were NOT smuggled in as some have been led to believe, they were dropped off at the front gate by relatives, gone thru for contraband, then the Lieutenant was bringing the package to the inmate, this has happened, in this manner, hundreds of times before.I have my own ideas as to why this happened this particular time. Most of the inmates have not been able to purchase ANYTHING thru the canteen for quite a while (weeks) due to a computer foul up. No cigarettes, no food, ( the food provided by the detention center is literally spoiled, can`t be eaten) no coffee, very few clothes.I really believe sheriff Anderson had no idea about all this happening an don`t believe he can be blamed for it, BUT, the guy that initiated the taking of the package an calling it contraband has been their a few years an knew this has been done many times before an was perfectly ok. I believe the two people charged are completely innocent of any charges

i would like to say to APSO,Do you realize u r ruining someones reputation and
hurting innocent people by what u r doing.Clothes and food,my God we have drug dealers, pushers, murderers, child molesters, just to mention a few and you are tearing people apart people that wouldnt hurt anyone. What has this world come to?and trust me I am not nearly the only one who feels this way.If people were to be honest they would tell u the same thing but people are afaid to voice their opinions anymore. And this country is suppose to have FREEDON OF SPEECH but when we do we are hounded. These charges are ridiculous.Im sure I will have repercussions from this letter but I believe in what I am saying along with many more people.I will see if we are still able to have FREEDOM OF SPEECH.
