Scrapping on Wise Street

Around 3 am Friday (10-10-08) an APD officer was dispatched to Wise Street in reference to a fight.

When the officer arrived he met a battered and bloody 54 year old Jimmy Washington who recounted the following story:

Washington was visiting his friend Melvin McClinton and his father at their home on 2810 Wise Street.

Washington was having a conversation with Melvin McClinton Sr. who said he didn’t like Melvin Jr. and Wanda McClinton, Melvin Jr.’s sister, hanging out at the house because they cause too much trouble.

That comment was more foretelling than Melvin Sr. probably realized.

Washington commented that their family business was none of his business but for some undisclosed reason he says he and Wanda began arguing.

Melvin Jr. then got involved by decking Washington in the face.

Washington began fighting back and then Wanda jumped on his back and put a knife to his throat.

Washington threw Wanda off but then Melvin hit him the face with some object.

It must have been a vicious struggle…in the police report the officer referred to Washington’s wounds as “disfiguring.”

The McClinton’s are both looking at charges of 2nd Degree Battery.

Naive or Nescient?

17 year old Robert Jenkins of Deville just learned a valuable lesson.

APD got a call about a simple robbery around 9 pm Thursday (10-09-08.)

Jenkins says he was visiting some friends who live off of Wise Street, exactly where he doesn’t know.

Jenkins, a white male, says he was hanging out at this house all day with his friends when two black males showed up.

Jenkins said he didn’t know the other two but that didn’t stop him from walking down Lee and Overton Street to the grocery store with them.

As soon as the trio entered an alleyway between Harris Street and Overton Street, Jenkins says the other two pounced, hitting him in the back of the head and knocking him down.

While on the ground the two rifled through his pockets, taking all $13 he had.

The men then ran off and Jenkins got up and walked to the store, where he called the police.

The police report notes Jenkins had a knot on the back of his head.

Jenkins admits he doesn’t know the address of the home nor did he know the names of his assailants.

He did give one vague and essentially useless clue to their identity, one was large and one was skinny.

He was noted a report would be on file.
