As the Gulf Coast prepares for the worst, many are looking towards Mobile, Alabama as a refuge.

Hotels are booking back-up reservations for evacuees.

At the same time, supplies continue flying off the shelves.

Board after board, the Thomas family begins preparing their home for a visitor they hope never shows up.

“Don’t panic until it’s time, but certainly be ready. I just don’t really feel like waiting until Monday and fighting 9 1/2 million people for plywood!” said Rhea Thomas.

Shipments at Home Depot came in overnight, but gas cans and generators were gone early Thursday morning.

Gustav’s predicted path continues to change-and so do the phone calls to hotels.

“People have been canceling and people are trying to make reservations, it’s the common cycle here for a hurricane,” said one hotel manager.

Right now, most of the Marriott hotels in Mobile are booked.

It’s the same story at the La Quinta Inn.

Employees there say someone from Louisiana booked the last 16 rooms Thursday afternoon.

The Thomas family will stay in town, with their boards ready.

“If we don’t need it this year, we’ll need it next year,” Rhea Thomas sighed.
