Two Army National Guard units from the Houma-Thibodaux area are awaiting orders for a planned deployment to Iraq next year.
Charlie Company, based in Houma, and Delta Company, in Thibodaux, are both part of the 2nd Battalion of the 256th Infantry Brigade Combat Team. They are scheduled to head to Iraq in January 2010, though the units are still awaiting a formal mobilization order.
Capt. Taysha Gibbs, a public affairs officer for the Louisiana National Guard, says both units are on alert - giving them time to prepare. Gibbs says the mobilization order with the time and date of their mission could come any day.
