Nick Mikulas
Weather - Meteorologist - Jambalaya / NoonNick Mikulas was born in St. Peters Missouri on a steamy August morning in 1979 to his young and unsuspecting parents Bill and Sharon. Man, were they in for a wild ride.
Nick came to Alexandria over 5 years ago as a weekend meteorologist/reporter. After about nine months on the weekends Nick moved to his current position alongside Melinda Johnson and Al Quartemont at the Jambalaya news desk. He also stops by at noon to bring you the latest from the weather department.
Nick came to Alexandria from Columbia Missouri via Detroit Michigan. He went to school at the University of Missouri Columbia, and finished his schooling off with an internship under meteorologists Paul Gross and Chuck Gaidica at WDIV in Detroit Michigan. There he learned from some of the best how to present a sensible, simple weathercast, and most importantly how to not trip and fall over the wire on the weather clicker.
When KALB got rid of the clicker with the wire, Nick’s job became a whole lot easier. In Nick’s tenure at KALB he has covered Hurricanes Lili, Ivan, Rita, and Katrina, as well as Tropical Storm Isidore live from New Orleans.
In Nick’s tenure in central Louisiana he met and married his wife Kristen, who’s a local girl born and raised in Lecompte. Together they run Louisiana Pro Stitch, which is a monogramming and t-shirt business.
Her mother Janice Cheek was a professional fisherman for many years and has the trophies to prove it. She actually won the Lady Bassmasters Classic 3 times.
Just so Nick doesn’t get in trouble he must say that her husband Bill Cheek was the one who taught her how to fish.
Nick has a stepson Max who is 8 years old and a very energetic 2 year old daughter named Lily who is not named after the hurricane. At least that’s what Nick tells his wife.
In Nick’s five plus years in Central Louisiana he has fallen in love with the comfortable simplicity of the slow paced life that’s offered here, and has enjoyed meeting so many of the Cenla residents while out and about.
